Baru said Sarawakians have heard such pledges many times in the past especially during the state elections in May.
“From past experience, we know that these are but rhetoric to fool the people of Sabah and Sarawak as BN has done so for the last 50-plus years. We have no confidence in this statement by PM especially when he is just about to face GE14,” said Baru in a statement today.
He said Sabah and Sarawak remained far behind in economic development despite the promise made by first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman to lift development to be equal to that of Malaya.
Baru said that since then religious freedom had been eroded, territorial rights compromised and English had lost its place as an official language.
