Nazri, who is an Umno supreme council member, pointed out that Malaysia had been selling land since its independence.
“We sold land to foreign embassies for them to build their embassies and foreign investors for them to build their buildings,” he said at a press conference at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tsun Jin here today.
Nazri, who is also the tourism and culture minister, reminded Mahathir that during his tenure as prime minister, a lot of land was sold to foreign investors as well.
“Why is it that he didn’t think the land would become foreign land back then?”
Nazri said although the land was being sold to foreigners, it still remained in Malaysia, therefore making it Malaysian land.
“If you sell one acre of land to China, can you cut up that one acre and send it piece by piece to China? They buy the land but it is still here so what is Mahathir saying?”
He urged people to ignore any more statements coming from the former prime minister.
“He’s getting more and more senile. I hope Malaysians do not pay attention to this old man.”
In Mahathir’s latest blog post, he said Malaysians can expect huge areas of land to become foreign enclaves.
He said huge tracts of land around Johor Bahru were being sold and once these areas were developed into housing and related properties, it would lead to “mass immigration of foreigners” taking up residence in these new townships.
Citing reports that the country had secured RM150 billion in Foreign Direct Investment during Najib’s official trip to China two months ago, Mahathir said no details were given of the deals that were signed.
