KUALA LUMPUR:
A senior military officer who served at Wisma Angkatan Tentera in Temerloh, Pahang, was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday for alleged corruption.

According to sources, the 57-year-old suspect, who holds the rank of lieutenant colonel, was arrested at the Temerloh MACC office about 2.30pm yesterday.

Sources also said the suspect was present at the MACC office to give a statement related to the investigation into the case involving him.

“The suspect, who was in charge of overseeing contractors as well as verifying the standard specifications process by contactors, was believed to have accepted bribes from proxy contractors, including a company owned by his father, where his wife is a director,” said the sources.

MACC deputy commissioner (Operations) Azam Baki, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed the arrest.

“I confirm the detention of the suspect today and there will be more arrests in connection with the investigation of this case,” he said declining to comment further.
