The names proposed include party president Mohamad Sabu, vice-president Hasanuddin Mohd Yunus, communications director Khalid Samad, strategy director Dzulkefly Ahmad, Wanita chief Siti Mariah Mahmud and Sepang MP Mohd Hanipa Maidin.
Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim said the presence of the “big guns” in Selangor was meant to strengthen Amanah and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“They will join forces with Selangor Amanah leaders Saari Sungib and Hasnul Baharuddin, together with other big names whom we will announce later,” he said in his opening remarks at the Selangor Amanah convention here today.
“In other words, Selangor Amanah is committed to offering the best through Pakatan Harapan, for the people of Selangor to ensure the continuity of the Selangor PH government and also the future PH federal government,” he added.
Also present were Mohamad Sabu and leaders of other PH component parties, including DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua, Selangor PKR vice-chairman Zuraida Kamaruddin and Selangor PPBM chairman Abdul Rashid Asari.
Izham also called on all leaders, members, activists and supporters of Selangor Amanah to focus on efforts to strengthen the party and its election machinery at all levels.
He said the issue of seat distribution and candidates would be settled accordingly.
“Don’t waste time debating and arguing about seats and candidates such that you neglect working on strengthening the party and its machinery,” he said.
Speaking to reporters later, Izham said the names proposed were subject to endorsement by the party’s central leadership.
“All the names announced are just proposals. They still need to be approved by the party leadership,” he added.
The Amanah candidates are likely to face three-cornered fights in each of the constituencies in the state, against both PAS and Barisan Nasional (BN).
On Aug 24, Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehin Mukhyi, who is the Sabak assemblyman, said the party would field candidates in at least 42 state seats there, and were ready to face the possibility of three-cornered or more contests.
“If three-cornered contests happen in Selangor, it is not the fault of PAS. DAP and Amanah were the ones who issued statements wanting to field candidates in PAS seats,” he said.
