TNB senior general manager (distribution network) Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood said 12 of the mobile generators had already been set up, and that TNB had suspended the functions of 38 out of the 4,852 electric substations in the state for safety reasons.
“Supply will be restored after the situation has improved. TNB is currently monitoring installations in the areas affected by the floods in Penang and Kedah,” he said in a statement last night.
He said members of the public should prioritise safety and comply with instructions issued by the authorities.
Information concerning services and electricity supply can be obtained through the TNB care line number 15454.
Meanwhile, AirAsia Bhd executive chairman and AirAsia X Group CEO Kamarudin Meranun said AirAsia would support the Penang flood relief efforts by offering assistance to non-profit organisations who require air transport to deliver relief items, and medical personnel to Penang.
Relief aid agencies and medical personnel on duty can send their requests to [email protected] for flight purposes and cargo details.
“We are saddened by the flood tragedy and we pledge to do what we can to help alleviate the distress experienced by Penangites,” he said.
