Over 100 people including relatives and friends, MCA leaders and representatives from the Penang State Youth Council attended the funeral.
Relatives and friends comforted each other as the remains of Swee Bok’s wife Chen Yen, 35, and mother Lau Sai Poh, 62, arrived around 3.30pm at the crematorium.
During the funeral service, Swee Bok thanked various parties including Prime Minister Najib Razak and wife, Rosmah Mansor, Barisan Nasional leaders and MCA members as well as the media.
“The media reports will make society realise the importance of love and care, and also improve the awareness of fire hazards,” he said.
Earlier, Swee Bok was seen fighting back tears when the remains of his daughter, Lim Jia Yinn, eight, and her brother Lim Yin Chun, nine, were cremated around 11am.
The remains of his children had arrived earlier, accompanied by some 50 close relatives, their schoolmates, teachers and friends.
Their maternal grandmother, Chen Li Hua, who flew in from China, was in tears.
In the 6am tragedy on Wednesday, a fire broke out at Swee Bok’s house in Pintasan Cecil 5, off Cecil St Ghaut, killing his mother Sai Poh, wife Chen Yen, son Yin Chun, and daughter Jia Yiin.
Swee Bok was working the midnight shift at the time of the fire. He also lost his father to cancer about two weeks ago.
