GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng today hit out at Umno president Najib Razak’s claim that the Malays would be damned (“bangsat”) if the opposition comes to power in the next general election (GE14).

Lim added that the “Cina DAP” theme at the recent Umno general assembly, along with the “scaremongering tactics” employed, showed that Barisan Nasional (BN) was desperate and aware that it might lose in GE14.

“No Malaysian, let alone the Malays, will be ‘bangsat’ (damned) if Pakatan Harapan wins. Furthermore, Malaysians will have a bright future without corruption, cronyism and the goods and services tax (GST).

“The future of Malaysia will be robbed by the corrupt, cronies and supporters of the GST if BN wins. They will do so by lying, bribing and threatening to stay in power,” he said in a statement today.

Lim was referring to Najib’s remark at the Umno general assembly last week where the prime minister had said that the Malays would lose their special rights if the opposition took over.

Lim said it was also disappointing that Umno had chosen to use the Chinese community as the Malays’ bogeyman.

“This is the first time Umno has attacked DAP using the word ‘Cina DAP’, which is a shocking racial, political theme which indirectly strikes the Chinese community.

“DAP has never once attacked Umno by calling them ‘Melayu Umno’, or PAS as ‘PAS Muslims’.

“Why must you fault the entire community for your political gain?

“What is worrying is the prime minister himself has issued threats with war cries which are filled with hate and fear.”
