This is part of the crowdfunding effort enabled through the Ubah online store launched by the party at its headquarters here today.
Aside from donations, the new portal will also have various party-themed merchandise on sale.
On the GE14 political fundraising efforts, not surprisingly, DAP are targetting MCA leaders who are expected to be defending their parliamentary seats.
Among the crowdfunding campaigns listed on the portal currently are “Kick Out Liow Tiong Lai from Bentong”, “Unseat Chua Tee Yong in Labis”, “Unlock Wee Ka Siong’s Ayer Hitam Fortress”, “Topple BN from the Highlands” (Cameron Highlands), and “Help Rural Voters Understand 1MDB”.
Damansara Utama state assemblyperson Yeo Bee Yin said the crowdfunding for campaigns will allow donors to see what was being done with their money.
“Donors used to contribute money to us but they never know what exactly we use it for. This way, they will know what we do with it.
“Donors will also get to choose what exact campaign they intended to fund. For example, if they want to see MCA president Liow Tiong Lai lose in Bentong, then they can donate specifically for that purpose,” she said.
She added that when the target for a particular campaign is reached, then the party will stop accepting any more donations for that campaign.
“However, if the campaign requires more money then a phase two will be introduced.”
According to Yeo, there will be more campaigns introduced in the run up to GE14.
“We will be posting up our campaigns and it’s progress on our FB pages,” she said.
Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching said the store was intended for supporters to buy merchandise online as there have been many enquiries to the party.
“The Ubah online store is for public to buy our merchandise, books or the Rocket newspaper.
“Supporters always ask our elected leaders about the merchandise and we are happy to launch it today.
“There is currently a promotion where those who subscribe to the Rocket newspaper for 24 months will be given a soft toy worth RM20 for free,” Teo said.
