KUALA LUMPUR:
The distribution of seats among Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties for the 14th general election (GE14) is still being discussed, said BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

“Still discussing … no decision yet, we leave it to the chairman,” he said when asked on the matter.

Adnan, who is Federal Territories Minister, was met after flagging off participants in the Big Walk Volunteer in Community Engagement (Voice) here today.

The event was held in conjunction with the 2018 Federal Territories Day celebration.

Tengku Adnan, who is also Umno secretary-general, had previously said that Umno had submitted the names of potential candidates to Prime Minister Najib Razak.

MIC president Dr S Subramaniam was also reported to have submitted the list of potential candidates to contest for nine parliamentary seats and 18 state seats in GE14 to Najib, who is also BN chairman.

As for MCA, while waiting for Najib’s “blessing”, the party had announced the names of its candidates, including for the Labis and Padang Serai parliamentary seats, as well as the Sekinchan and Bekok state seats.

On efforts to attract the young people to register as voters, Tengku Adnan said various information sessions were held to enhance their awareness on the matter and of its importance to the country’s future.

“Some of them take it easy, some of them don’t care, but we will have programmes to increase their awareness to become voters,” he said.

This year’s Voice programme involved the participation of about 500 volunteers. It was held with the cooperation of the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory Social Welfare Department and several non-governmental organisations.
