A circular issued by Parliament states the Dewan Negara sitting will be held for eight days, starting from March 26 and concluding on April 5.
Traditionally, the Dewan Negara sessions commence after the conclusion of the Dewan Rakyat sitting.
Today, Putrajaya tabled a supplementary supply bill in the Dewan Rakyat to seek an additional RM7.122 billion to be included in the 2017 federal budget.
Bills tabled and passed in the Dewan Rakyat need the approval of the Dewan Negara before they can be enacted.
Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the motion on the redelineation of electoral boundaries will be tabled at the Dewan Rakyat only and need not go to the Dewan Negara level.
Zahid, who is also the home minister, said the motion, which would be tabled by the head of the parliamentary council, only needed a simple majority, which is 111 out of the 220 MPs.
“As soon as the motion is passed at the Dewan Rakyat and receives the assent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for gazetting, it becomes a motion and need not be taken to the Dewan Negara,” Zahid said.
The five-year mandate of the government expires on June 24, 2018, after which Parliament dissolves automatically for the general election (GE14).
