Chow successfully defended the Padang Kota state seat and also won a fresh term as Tanjung MP at last week’s general election.
He will take his oath of office before the Yang Dipertua Negeri, Abdul Rahman Abbas, at the governor’s official residence, Seri Mutiara, at 10am.
Lim has been chief minister since 2008 and was named Finance Minister yesterday in the new federal government Cabinet announced by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Lim said he and his wife Betty Chew were leaving Penang with a heavy heart.
“I am also sorry for any mistakes I have made in my past 10 years. We might not have been perfect, but we got 80 out of 100 marks. That is still excellent,” he said.
He said he was grateful to Penangites for giving him and the party the experience of being a government, or else Pakatan Harapan would not have been able to show that they were far better than Barisan Nasional.
He hoped that Seberang Perai, the mainland part of the state, would be transformed into an international city on par with the island.
Lim also made a Mahathir-style slip of the tongue when he said he would fulfil all the promises of the “Barisan Nasional manifesto”.
He was quickly corrected by Penang assemblymen present.
“We will fulfil all 68 manifesto promises of Barisan Nasional… ah, sorry … I am so used to ‘bantai’ (slam) BN,” he said, laughing.
At a rally two weeks ago, Mahathir, 92, had asked the crowd to support BN candidates for the general election. Mahathir was chairman of BN for 21 years and is now chairman of PH and PPBM.
