Lim Guan Eng said his officers will lodge police reports on the fake GST circular and a fake tweet on him closing down UiTM. With him is Penang Islamic Council president Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.
GEORGE TOWN:
Incoming Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng today said circulars claiming the goods and services tax (GST) would be abolished from June 1 were fake.

He said he had no authority to do so at the moment as he had yet to be sworn in as minister.

However, he said the GST would definitely be repealed as promised in the election manifesto.

“Only the prime minister can issue such circulars as of now.

“I checked with the PM and he did not issue any such instruction,” Lim told reporters at the Khazanah Nasional office on China Street Ghaut here today.

Lim said he was also upset that an old fake tweet claiming he would close down Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) was making its rounds again.

He said his officers would be lodging police reports on the fake tweet and GST circular soon.
