PETALING JAYA: PKR’s Sungai Kandis state representative Shuhaimi Shafiei passed away today at the age of 50.
He had been suffering from lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes. He passed away at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre at 11.10am.
Shuhaimi will be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Section 21, after Asar prayers.
Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali was among Pakatan Harapan leaders who offered his condolences on Shuhaimi’s death.
“He was hardworking and dedicated in his job,” PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil added.
Shuhaimi was former political secretary to Azmin, during the latter’s tenure as Selangor menteri besar.
In the 14th general election, Shuhaimi won the Sungai Kandis seat with a 12,480-vote majority in a four-way contest against Barisan Nasional, PAS and PRM candidates.
However, he could not attend the swearing-in ceremony at the meeting for the first state assembly sitting on June 26 due to health reasons.
