Batu Kawan MP P Kasthuriraani has urged Malaysia to sign and ratify a United Nations declaration which will allow for religious freedom in the country.
KUALA LUMPUR:
DAP’s P Kasthuriraani is giving Isma Web, a portal run by Muslim NGO Isma, 48 hours to retract an article claiming she had insulted Islam during a Parliamentary debate.

The Batu Kawan MP also wants the portal to issue an apology for publishing an article titled: “Ahli Parlimen DAP desak kebebasan murtad, ajaran sesat”.

“I have never made such a statement as claimed by Isma Web,” she said at the Parliament lobby today.

The article written by Isma member, Ahmad Nu’man Mazlan, alleged that Kasthuriraani was pushing for the freedom to leave Islam and to practise deviant teachings in Malaysia.

In her speech on Monday, Kasthuriraani urged Malaysia to sign and ratify the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of All Forms of Intolerance and of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief, which will allow for religious freedom in the country.

She said Malaysia needed to uphold the principles of human rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in which Article 18 states that everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.

This includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
