PETALING JAYA:
Unconfirmed results of the PKR polls show that the majority of top posts in the party belong to deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali’s team.

According to the list, Azmin has successfully retained his number two post, with his allies Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin, Kuala Langat MP Xavier Jayakumar and former Batu MP Tian Chua winning the vice-presidencies.

Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar also retained her vice-president’s post.

Leadership of PKR’s women’s wing is also said to have gone to individuals supportive of Azmin, namely Haniza Talha and her deputy Daroyah Alwi.

As for the youth wing, the unconfirmed results put Johor Bahru MP Akhmal Nasir at top spot while Gombak Setia state assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham, who is said to be aligned with Azmin, won the deputy post.

Out of the 20 candidates selected to be on the Supreme Council, 14 are said to be from Azmin’s team. Those who won positions on the council include Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Rashid Hasnon, Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Sungai Buloh MP Sivarasa Rasiah and Bukit Lanjan state assemblyman Elizabeth Wong.

Official results are expected to be announced over the next three days, beginning with the 13th PKR Congress to be held in Shah Alam today.

Azmin, who is also economic affairs minister, had been locked in a battle with Rafizi Ramli over the PKR deputy presidency.

He said yesterday he had no problems working with Rafizi to prepare the party for the 15th general election. He also said he would support PKR president Anwar Ibrahim in order to strengthen the party.
