According to sources, the man was detained at the MACC office in Batu Pahat last night, after he was found to have used his bank account for a transaction involving RM40,000, believed to be a bribe, while claiming to be the private officer to former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad.
The complainant paid the money to the suspect as an inducement to “settle” a police case involving obscene text messages and a money scam, which allegedly had taken place in May last year.
The case is being investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times of the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Johor MACC director Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
