Man held for posing as ex-MACC chief Dzulkifli’s aide

He was found to have used his bank account for a transaction involving RM40,000, believed to be a bribe.

JOHOR BAHRU:
A 39-year-old man has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly claiming to be a former chief commissioner’s private officer and soliciting bribes.

According to sources, the man was detained at the MACC office in Batu Pahat last night, after he was found to have used his bank account for a transaction involving RM40,000, believed to be a bribe, while claiming to be the private officer to former MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad.

The complainant paid the money to the suspect as an inducement to “settle” a police case involving obscene text messages and a money scam, which allegedly had taken place in May last year.

The case is being investigated under Section 16 (a)(A) of the MACC Act, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times of the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.

Johor MACC director Azmi Alias confirmed the arrest.
