This followed a short wake with close relatives at the home and funeral prayers at the mosque.
The 24-year-old was lowered into the grave dug by his relatives, who were seen sobbing throughout the ceremony.
His remains had arrived at his hometown of Kg Tebengau, 13km southwest of Alor Setar, in a convoy of three helicopters at 10.29am.
The choppers, carrying his family members and officials from the Fire and Rescue Department, landed at the compound of a primary school adjacent to the mosque.
Over 1,000 people had gathered at the school, including 200 firemen in uniform. They followed the procession to his home some 200m away.
Adib’s coffin remained at his home for about an hour. Meanwhile, the muftis of Kedah and Perlis attended a prayer session with about 300 people at the mosque.
At noon, Adib’s remains were brought from his home in a fire brigade paramedic van. Six firemen who formed a guard of honour carried his casket to the mosque for prayers before taking it to the burial grounds.
The casket, draped in a Malaysian flag and a Fire and Rescue Department flag, was lowered into the grave by about 30 firemen.
Prayers were recited by religious elders, accompanied by senior Kedah government officials.
On her Instagram, Adib’s fiancee Nurul Najihah Mohd Radzi posted a heartfelt farewell message, together with a photo of their wedding invitation card.
“Al-Fatihah Kudip. Tomorrow we go back to our hometown together. Yes dear, we will go home. We will go together. Tomorrow we will go back home.”
Adib, who was badly injured in the Sri Maha Mariamman temple fracas in Subang Jaya last month, died at 9.41pm at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
