SEREMBAN: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim concurs with Dr Mahathir Mohamad that he (Anwar) will make a better prime minister than Najib Razak.
The Port Dickson MP said that Najib is the worst prime minister in Malaysia’s history, based on his record in running the government and managing the country’s finances.
“I think Dr Mahathir is right,” he told reporters after attending a gathering with voters at Segga Kampung Hilir in Rantau today.
Anwar was asked to comment on Mahathir’s interview with New Straits Times in which he said that despite their previous differences, Anwar would make a better leader than Najib.
According to Mahathir, it was more acceptable for Anwar, whom he once described as “not fit to be a leader”, to replace “a person like Najib” than to allow the former prime minister to continue administering the country.
“I thought that our working together was far more important, in order to displace Najib, than for us to quarrel because I knew if we didn’t work together, Najib would still be the next prime minister and that would be disastrous for the country,” the English language daily quoted Mahathir as saying.
Today is the ninth day of campaigning for the Rantau by-election on Saturday, which will see a four-cornered contest involving Barisan Nasional’s Dr Streram Sinnasamy, Barisan Nasional’s Mohamad Hasan and two independents, Malar Rajaram and Mohd Nor Yassin.
