Anwar an actor, Hadi says after his claim to be pro-Islamic leader

The PAS president says the Port Dickson MP puts on a different persona for different occasions.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang (right) says PKR president Anwar Ibrahim’s behaviour usually reflects the occasion he is attending.
PETALING JAYA:
PAS today labelled Anwar Ibrahim an “actor” after the PKR president said he wanted to be known as a leader who upholds Islam when he takes office as the eighth prime minister.

The Islamist party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang, said Anwar would behave according to where he was, Sinar Harian reported.

And this, Hadi said, could be seen in the events Anwar attended, which would even see him taking to the dance floor.

Last year, when campaigning for Pakatan Harapan in the Seri Setia by-election, Anwar danced with a lookalike of legendary actor MG Ramachandran, or MGR, at a cultural night event. The video of his performance went viral.

“When attending an Islamic event, he is like this (defending Islam) and when attending a Deepavali or Christmas event, he puts on an act to fit the occasion.

“There is no need for me to comment on his (Anwar) acting,” the Malay daily quoted him as saying.

Anwar yesterday said that apart from wanting to be known as a leader who upheld Islam, he also wanted to be seen as one who is concerned and cares for non-Muslims.

“I want to be known as a very caring and compassionate friend to non-Muslims, like the Christians and Hindus.

“This is because they are our loyal citizens,” the Port Dickson MP said during his speech at a breaking-of-fast event with several Muslim NGOs.
