PETALING JAYA: Lim Kit Siang has welcomed a debate dare from Najib Razak, but not before attacking the former prime minister, labelling him a “pathological liar” and accusing him of deflecting questions on the 1MDB scandal.
“Probably, the best subject for debate is: ‘How Malaysia became a global kleptocracy and how we can become a leading nation of integrity’,” the veteran DAP leader said, responding to Najib’s remarks that he is willing to have a freestyle “anything goes” debate with Lim.
“The ball is in Najib’s court,” Lim added.
Lim also rejected Najib’s claim that he was obsessed with the former prime minister.
“He cannot be more wrong. I would not be interested in him one bit if he had not had the dubious distinction of being the single one Malaysian who had wrought the greatest damage to Malaysia both to the present and future generations with his kleptocratic legacy,” he said.
In an interview with FMT, Najib said a debate with Lim would allow the public to judge them on their stand on certain issues.
“He can ask me anything, even 1MDB. And I can ask him anything. In the spirit of a healthy democracy, he should take up the challenge,” he said.
