In a Facebook post, the former Umno president mocked Lim, whom he calls the “minister of Najib affairs”, for saying that Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s return as Umno president was to “save” Najib.

“(He) claims my influence in Umno is gone and Zahid’s return as president is part of a conspiracy to restore my influence in Umno. Actually, it is Zahid’s decision, it has nothing to do with me,” Najib said.

Yesterday, Zahid announced he was returning to take over his presidential duties after having gone on leave last December.

“What is strange is that less than two months ago, he accused me of being the grand mastermind behind Umno all this while. Yes, Kit Siang is strange, he sees conspiracies here and there,” said Najib.

He said Lim had not stopped commenting about him except for when the Iskandar Puteri MP backed out of debating him.

What cannot be denied, Najib said, was that Umno’s matters and his were close to Lim’s heart.

Rather than take an interest from the outside, he said Lim could just join Umno.

“So I agree to support him in filling up (an) Umno membership form. I’ll even help him fill his name. The other details, he can fill up himself,” he said, while attaching a link to an Umno membership form.

Najib, who has been trading barbs with Lim over the past year, said he could not guarantee that Umno would approve of Lim’s membership.
