FMT columnist dies after battle with cancer

Wan Haron Wan Hassan had more than three decades of experience as a lawyer.

PETALING JAYA: Former FMT columnist Wan Haron Wan Hassan died today after a battle with cancer. He was 67.

Wan Haron, a senior lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, was an active contributor to FMT even when he was undergoing treatment as his cancer took a turn for the worse.

He was also active in civil society movements, and was once active with Umno, serving as treasurer of the party’s Kota Baru division from 2004 to 2008.

In March, he wrote a touching piece on a “near-death” experience when he was critically ill.

“You do not need to go through a debilitating experience as I did to realise these profound lessons. You do not need to wait until you reach dead end to be aware of the potent lessons of life. Do good and be kind to all others around you – now! We can never be sure whether we will be given a second chance to redeem ourselves,” he wrote.

May his soul be placed among the righteous.
