PONTIAN:
Smaller crowds at Pakatan Harapan election rallies are not a sign that the ruling coalition is losing support, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim said tonight at a well-attended ceramah for the Tanjung Piai by-election.

He said that some people attended opposition rallies just to hear what the other side wanted to say.

“It’s not a competition of ceramah, but a competition of content and competition for support,” he said after reporters had asked him about the larger attendance at the ceramah held by Barisan Nasional.

“I believe that there will be more people today evening and night,” he said at a press conference while visiting PKR’s Tanjung Piai election campaign teams.

Anwar said one of the reasons for his visit to Tanjung Piai was his confidence in the PH candidate, Karmaine Sardini.

“If we look at Karmaine’s qualifications; his experience as a local leader, he is capable of helping people. I want to give him confidence. I came because I am confident of Karmaine’s capability (as the next MP for Tanjung Piai).

He said the people did not have to vote for the opposition just to ensure the government listens to their plight. The government of the day already listens to them. “Farmers, fisherman, jobless graduates (we listen to them). (We also listen about) lack of medical facilities, education and such,” he said.

Anwar also denied that PH sidelined Indian voters in the by-election, noting that PH has camped in the Indian area to listen to and solve their issues.
