“He came in at 3.45pm and left around 6pm. We have recorded statements from about 3 to 4 people on the case so far,” Bukit Aman CID Prosecution and Law Division (D5) principal assistant director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid told FMT.
This comes days after Bukit Aman’s Classified Criminal Investigation Unit launched a probe based on a police report lodged by Muhammed Yusoff Rawther on Dec 7.
Yusoff, a former research assistant at Anwar’s office, was summoned to Bukit Aman on Monday accompanied by his lawyer Haniff Khatri Abdulla. He was again called for questioning the next day.
Yusoff had in a statutory declaration, which he has included in his police report, accused the Port Dickson MP of trying to outrage his modesty.
Police said the case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code, a provision on the use of criminal force to outrage a person’s modesty.
Yusoff had previously accused Anwar’s political secretary, Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, of assaulting him.
Farhash had denied the accusations.
At a press conference streamed on Facebook Live on Dec 4, Yusoff claimed that a senior politician had committed a crime against him which he described as “un-Islamic, vile, insidious and morally repugnant”.
Anwar strongly denied the claim, calling it baseless and politically motivated. His lawyer Ramkarpal Singh has since been trying to serve a letter of demand on Yusoff.
