The senior operations commander from the Fire and Rescue Department’s Kuala Lumpur branch told FMT that one of the victims had been sent to hospital while efforts were under way to rescue the trapped person.
The Protect Taman Desa From Over-Development Facebook group also posted photos of the incident and said that the project was “dangerously close to surrounding condominium blocks and schools”.
The group’s Facebook account and EdgeProp.my’s Twitter feed both said the condominium is a project developed by the Maxim Group called The Address.
FMT has reached out to Maxim Group for comments.
The Fire and Rescue Department later issued a statement saying it was not sure how many victims were trapped in the rubble and that K-9 units had been deployed to assist in the search.
It also stated that the rescue workers are having difficulty getting to the victims as conditions at the site are not stable, with some portions still collapsing.
