In a statement, it said it had also taken note of the appointment of Hasni Mohammad as the new menteri besar, leading the new Gabungan Baharu state government comprising BN, PAS and PPBM.
“We are of the opinion the deadlock will only cause problems to matters that need the state assembly’s approval,” it said, adding that its assemblymen would continue to serve the people and honour the mandate given to PH in the 14th general election.
Hasni, 61, was sworn in as menteri besar before Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at Istana Bukit Serene here earlier yesterday, replacing Dr Sahruddin Jamal from PPBM.
It followed the collapse of the PH government at the federal level after PPBM pulled out of PH on Monday.
The palace had said in a statement Sultan Ibrahim was satisfied the new coalition had the simple majority to form the state government, when 28 assemblymen chose Gabungan Baharu, compared to 26 choosing PH.
Hasni, meanwhile, said his appointment was carried out in accordance with the law and the sultan’s prerogative power.
He gave an assurance he would focus on appointing a new state executive council line-up and resolving the political turmoil in the state.
“The sultan of Johor has exercised his prerogative power as stated in the State Constitution to appoint me as the new menteri besar. The Gabungan Baharu coalition will form the new state government, replacing the Pakatan Harapan government,” he said.
“I want to stress that this appointment is a result of the collapse of the PH government. So, this is not a backdoor government, this is not a government created by us, not our doing.
“We need to have a new government. His Majesty ascertains the confidence of the house, it is His Majesty’s prerogative, not anyone else’s.
“Rest assured, we will continue and respect the democratic system of our country, but most importantly, we need to move on. Any prolonged crisis will lead to a weaker state of the economy,” Hasni, who is also the Johor BN chairman and Umno chief, said.
He explained that the appointment was made possible following the collapse of the PH government at the federal level after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pulled out of the coalition on Monday.
He said Umno would discuss the new exco line-up with its Gabungan Baharu component parties – PAS, MIC and PPBM – to ensure a fair distribution of representatives.
