PETALING JAYA:
The Pahang government will implement a two-day work from home (WFH) policy for civil servants starting next week, menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said today.

Wan Rosdy said the decision was in view of public concerns over the rising cost of living, which has been exacerbated by developments in the Middle East.

“The Pahang government has decided to implement WFH two days a week on a rotational basis for state government staff, effective next week,” he said in a statement.

Wan Rosdy said it was part of the state government’s effort to ease the financial burden faced by civil servants from travel costs.

He said this policy would be implemented in an organised manner and would not affect the state government’s operations.

“Department heads and agencies will coordinate its implementation based on service needs and the functions of their respective departments,” he said, urging civil servants to maintain professionalism throughout this period.

He also urged private sector employers to adopt flexible working arrangements for their workers.

Separately, the Negeri Sembilan government said it is studying the proposal to implement WFH in light of the energy crisis caused by the Iran war.

Menteri besar Aminuddin Harun said his administration was assessing the suitable departments and number of staff to ensure public services were not disrupted.

“We are ready to consider implementing WFH. If a department is quite critical, we will not allow WFH,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.

Earlier today, Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow ruled out implementing WFH for the state’s civil servants, saying there was no urgent need to do so.

At the federal level, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim previously said WFH arrangements would be introduced in stages for selected civil servants, while urging the private sector to follow suit.

The Selangor government is also expected to finalise its own WFH plan in three weeks to reduce petrol and energy consumption.
