It’s ‘physical distancing’ now, says health ministry

Social distancing is the practice of maintaining a minimum distance of one metre from others while in public places.

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry today announced that the term “social distancing” would be replaced with “physical distancing”.

In a post on Twitter, it said the new term was more accurate.

Social distancing, one of the safety measures implemented by the ministry to limit the spread of Covid-19, is the practice of maintaining a minimum distance of one metre from others while in public places.

This, along with frequent hand washing, the use of hand sanitiser and the wearing of face masks, has been the norm since mid-March when the government imposed a partial lockdown to arrest any further increase in infections.

The country is currently in the recovery movement control order period, which has seen most businesses reopen and pupils returning to school in stages.

A total of 8,964 cases were recorded as of yesterday, with 124 deaths.
