Recoveries, however, outpaced new cases with seven discharged from hospital.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the number of confirmed cases now stands at 9,240.
A total of 8,932 patients have been discharged, leaving 183 active cases, with seven warded in the intensive care unit and four needing respiratory assistance.
No new casualties were recorded, which sees the death toll remaining at 125.
The five new infections were imported, involving two Malaysians and three foreigners.
On the new Alam cluster detected in Bintulu, Sarawak, Noor Hisham said five crew members of a ship were screened for Covid-19 and four tested positive. The fifth individual is awaiting the test results.
Two of the positive cases are Malaysians and the other two foreigners. They are being treated at the Bintulu Hospital. The ship they were working on is from Japan.
“The risk of local transmissions from this cluster is low as they are isolated on a ship,” he said in a statement.
He said active case detection is being carried out, while close contacts of those who tested positive are being screened.
“The ship has been disinfected and decontaminated,” he said.
