Water supply restored to more than 60% of affected areas

Water supply has been restored to 811 areas in Petaling, Klang, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.

Klang Valley residents have had to rely on standpipes and water tankers since water supplies were disrupted on Thursday.
PETALING JAYA:
Water supply has been restored to 62.7% of the 1,292 areas in the Klang Valley that have been affected by the water cuts since Thursday.

Air Selangor said it expects water supply to all consumer accounts to fully recover by 6am on Sept 9.

A statement released by Air Selangor at 7pm said water supply had resumed in 811 areas in Petaling, Klang, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor.

The statement added that water supply had been restored to 99.2% of affected areas in Kuala Selangor, 94.1% in Hulu Selangor, 66.4% of Gombak, 66.1% of Petaling, 50% of Kuala Langat, 41.3% of Kuala Lumpur and 24.2% of Klang/Shah Alam.

More than 1.2 million people in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor have suffered from water supply disruptions since Thursday after four water treatment plants were closed because of solvents illegally released by a factory in Rawang into Sungai Gong.

Four brothers who own the factory alleged to have caused the pollution were arrested last night and will be charged in court next week under the Environmental Quality Act and the Water Services Industry Act.
