Record high 1,755 Covid-19 cases, 2 deaths

A total of 726 patients were discharged.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry has reported 1,755 Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the past 24 hours.

This is the fourth day in a row that Malaysia’s cases have reached four digits.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 726 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 26,380.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 1,755 cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 38,189.

Of the number, 1,752 were local infections, while the remaining three cases were imported cases. The three imported cases involved two Malaysians and one foreigner who had arrived from Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Myanmar.

Meanwhile, the two deaths bring the toll to 279.

A total of 11,530 people are currently receiving treatment with 83 in intensive care, of which 32 require respiratory assistance.

The two deaths involved a 67-year old woman from Sabah and 54-year old man from Kedah. Both had a history of non-communicable diseases.

The bulk of local cases today were from Sabah with 1,199 infections, 741 of which were from the prison and temporary detention centre clusters.

This was followed by Penang with 192 cases, Selangor (164), Labuan (59), Negeri Sembilan (45), Kedah (19), Perak (18), Kuala Lumpur (17), Sarawak (17), Putrajaya (9), Terengganu (8), Johor (3) and two in Melaka.

The bulk of these cases were detected in the existing clusters.
