
In a statement, the resort said the 1am landslide had affected one of its villas, with the Fire and Rescue Department discovering the two bodies near the jacuzzi area at about 10am.
“We are working with the authorities to reach out to the families of the two guests and are providing every support and assistance we can. No other guests and staff are affected and all have been moved to a safe area.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two guests. We will continue to provide them with our support and immediate needs to the best of our ability,” it said.
The resort said it fulfils all safety requirements and protocols set by the authorities, adding that the health and safety of guests had always been its priority.
“We are unable to make further comments as a police investigation is underway,” it added.
Search and rescue teams retrieved the bodies of Ooi Chee Wei, 39, and Lee Tze Juin, 32, believed to have been buried alive when the incident occurred.
Perak acting police chief Goh Boon Keong said search and rescue operations commenced immediately after they received the call about the incident in the wee hours of the morning.
“However, it was temporarily halted as there were still soil movements at the scene. The search resumed at 7am,” he said.
