PETALING JAYA:
PKR president Anwar Ibrahim has urged Education Minister Radzi Jidin to look into the plight of canteen operators who may go out of business because of the closure of schools during the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

He said more than 10,000 school canteen operators were expected to suffer losses.

Calling the rushed decision to close all schools until the end of the school year a disappointment, Anwar said it may force canteen operators to close down their business as they would not be able to afford their daily operational costs.

“I urge an explanation and immediate action from the government, especially the education minister, regarding this issue,” he said in a statement today.

“I also urge the government to consider the proposal to provide assistance grants and to extend their contracts.”
