Record high 2,525 Covid-19 cases, 8 deaths

There were 1,481 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 2,525 Covid-19 cases and eight deaths in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,481 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 88,941.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the 2,525 new cases bring the total number of cases in the country to 113,010.

The eight deaths bring the toll to 471.

There are 23,598 active cases with 131 patients receiving intensive care, of which 60 require respiratory assistance.

The deaths reported were all Malaysians.

Three were from Selangor involving two women and one man. One of the women, aged 62, and the man (61) suffered from co-morbidities, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney failure and stroke. The other woman (78) also had rheumatoid arthritis.

Another two deaths were from Johor, involving a 79-year-old man who suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart condition and prostate cancer, and a 69-year-old man with high blood pressure and stroke.

A 58-year-old woman from Kelantan, a 39-year-old man in Negeri Sembilan and a 71-year-old man from Kedah also died due to complications arising from co-morbidities.

Of the new cases reported today, 2,512 were local and 13 imported.

Selangor reported the highest number of infections with 1,205, where 995 cases were detected from clusters and close contacts screenings.

This was followed by Sabah with 299 cases and Melaka, 239.

Noor Hisham said a total of 304 cases were reported from immigration detention centre clusters as well as lock-ups and prisons.
