GEORGE TOWN:
There can be too much of a good thing, and good Samaritans.

The family of five who, until a week ago had been living in a car for eight months after losing their home in a fire in April, are now telling people to stop donating. They have received more than enough help.

The family today urged people to stop sending donations in cash or kind, after help poured in from both locals and those abroad.

Security guard Ganesh Soundarajah, 34, said that since his wish of having a home has come true, he hoped people would stop giving more donations.

“We have been getting so many items and cash from nice people all over the country and some overseas. I want to thank them. They are so generous.

“But please, I think we have enough now, and a house as well, so I think we don’t need any more donations,” he said.

Soundarajah, his wife, 33, and children aged eight months to six years were offered a government flat for rent at the Rifle Range Flats in Air Itam last weekend.

The Penang government also provided him with necessities for the house and his children.

He also received electrical goods from philanthropist preacher Ebit Lew while many others donated various things and cash to the family.
