Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the MCO, effective tomorrow, following a surge of Covid-19 cases in the state.
The MCO in Kelantan will last until Jan 26, like in the other five state and federal territories.
“The health ministry is seeing more clusters in communities across the state,” said Ismail in a press conference.
“Since Jan 14, a total of 1,649 cases have been recorded in Kelantan.
“Since Jan 10, there has been an average of 80 to 100 new cases a day, and active cases in the state have risen from 328 to 891 over the last 14 days,” he added.
Ismail said the health ministry confirmed that 90% of Kelantan districts are now in red and orange zones.
The districts in red zones are: Kota Bharu, Bachok, Tumpat, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Machang and Gua Masang.
Jeli is now an orange zone while Pasir Puteh and Pasir Mas are now yellow zones.
Ismail also said the SOPs for Kelantan would be the same as in the other states and federal territories currently under MCO.
Ismail said that like in other MCO areas, all social, religious, and cultural activities are not allowed in Kelantan.
Travel in MCO areas is limited to a 10km radius, and only two members of a family are allowed to go out in the same vehicle for the purchase of essentials.
Selangor, Penang, Melaka, Johor, Sabah and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya are currently under a 14-day MCO.
When announcing the MCO in those areas on Monday, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said Kelantan would be under a conditional MCO – along with Pahang, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Kedah and Terengganu.
