KUALA LUMPUR:
Flood victims have been going home in Pahang, Johor and Sabah in sunny weather, with the number housed at relief centres on the decline, except in Sarawak.

The Sarawak disaster committee said a total of 50 centres were still operating in six flood-hit districts since Wednesday. A further 121 victims were moved to evacuation centres, bringing the total number housed at the centres to 4,343 people.

Kuching district recorded the highest number of flood victims at 2,238 people, followed by Serian (1,015), Bau (747), Samarahan (211), Simunjan (103) and Miri (29).

In Pahang, the last three relief centres were closed in Lipis and Jerantut districts, with more than 7,000 people still in 92 other centres: Pekan recorded the highest number at 3,306 followed by Maran (1,703), Kuantan (877), Temerloh (784) and Bera (342).

In Johor, there were only 93 people at relief centres in Segamat and Batu Pahat.

Johor executive councillor R Vidyananthan said the sunny weather since this morning allowed the evacuees to return home in stages.

In Sabah only 313 flood victims remain in Pitas, Beaufort, Lahad Datu and Paitan.

Sarawak minister Fatimah Abdullah said relief centres in the state are allowed to operate at 50% capacity, to ensure physical distancing and reduce the risk of Covid-19 infections.

There were 121 more people evacuated to relief centres today, raising the total number to 4,343 at 50 relief centres in the six flood-hit districts.
