In a joint statement, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching and Dr Goh Aik Ping, a general practitioner (GP) and columnist, listed this as among their suggestions to the government.
They said the rise in cases showed the emergency had not stopped the virus from spreading and that more proactive measures were needed.
They also said on top of issuing quarantine orders, GPs should be roped in to treat and follow up with patients displaying mild Covid-19 symptoms.
“Develop a standardised nationwide database system, which allows all GPs to regularly update patient data, health conditions, quarantine status and discharge matter into the system. Failing to report will result in (GPs) being penalised,” they said.
The other suggestions by Teo and Goh include deploying the armed forces to help with contact tracing and ensuring quarantine compliance, accelerating the national immunisation programme, placing in quarantine all close contacts of positive cases and screening them, and implementing extensive Covid-19 testing for high-risk groups.
For three consecutive days, Malaysia has recorded over 5,000 cases a day, taking the total number of active cases in the country to 48,150. A total of 760 people have now died of Covid-19.
