Just declare CMCO, says Najib after all sectors open

Former prime minister takes a dig at the latest ruling, saying that the only place where Covid-19 seems to be a threat now is in Parliament.

PETALING JAYA:
Putrajaya should just declare a nationwide conditional movement control order (CMCO) following the decision to allow dine-in at restaurants and almost all sectors allowed to reopen, Najib Razak said today.

With the further relaxation of restrictions under the “lockdown”, the former prime minister said the current MCO had been rendered meaningless.

“Don’t make Malaysia the only country in the world where a lockdown actually means ‘all open’,” he said in a Facebook post.

Earlier this evening, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that all remaining retail sectors would be allowed to open from tomorrow, although they will be subject to strict SOPs.

Putrajaya also decided to allow dine-in at food and beverage outlets, limited to two customers per table.

The number of people in premises will also be limited according to the size of the shop to ensure physical distancing, he said.

Taking a dig at the ruling, Najib said almost all sectors were allowed to operate as “everyone knew that Covid-19 only posed a threat in Parliament”.

“Just change it to a CMCO and ban interstate travel for non-commercial purposes,” Najib said.

While all sectors have been opened, Parliament remains suspended following the emergency declared by the King last month to combat the pandemic.
