Annuar was responding to Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah’s statement urging the Supreme Council to call for an emergency meeting to cut ties with PPBM, ahead of the party’s general assembly.
Tengku Razaleigh said the council’s members must follow the wishes of the 147 of the 191 Umno divisions, who called for the party to withdraw its cooperation with PPBM.
“147? Before this it was 189 … some have said the actual number was 81. Which one is it?” he asked in a tweet.
“(Let’s) bring this matter to the annual general meeting (AGM) and get the figure right.”
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had revealed on Jan 3 that 143 divisions had told the party leadership they were against cooperating with PPBM in the next general election.
However, in a press conference on Jan 6, Annuar, an Umno leader seen to be friendly with PPBM, claimed the actual number was only 99.
Meanwhile, several news portals have also reported that 189 divisions were against supporting PPBM.
The Umno Supreme Council has said the party would make its decision at the AGM, scheduled for March 27 and 28.
