The petition was registered on change.org by Raja Nurul Huda Raja Halimul Rashid, calling on the Petaling Perdana district education office to take immediate action, although the four pupils were not infected at school.
Despite the active cases reported, the school only shut down three classes and put the affected pupils and 17 teachers under home quarantine. The afternoon session began on March 1 while the morning session, for pupils in Years Four to Six started on Monday.
FMT visited SK Subang Jaya today and found the school open as usual with pupils adhering to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs), including the wearing of masks.
Speaking to FMT, parents supported the petition, with some even calling for the immediate closure of the entire school, including the morning session.
Ayu Hayati said she has signed the petition, which she knew came from one of the parents.
She said there was a higher risk of virus transmission at the school since it has both a morning and afternoon session.
“Children are sharing classrooms. It would be wise to close the school,” she said.
Another parent, Nurul Fazurina, said many parents have decided not to send their children to school for the time being and will rely on online learning.
Mohd Hasbullah said he is not aware of the petition but will support it. He questioned the school’s reason for not shutting down the whole school temporarily.
FMT has reached out to the Petaling Perdana education office for comments.
