PETALING JAYA:
First Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman’s former residence in Pulau Tikus, which has now been put up for sale for RM62 million, should be acquired by Putrajaya as a heritage site, said Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The detached double storey heritage mansion sprawls across 0.6ha of land in a lush, green neighbourhood at the corner of Jalan Park and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The six-bedroom residence was labelled as refurbished and renovated on several property listings, such as PropertyGuru.

Tunku Abdul Rahman made the house his residence after his retirement and lived there until his death in 1990. The property was sold by his family after his death and is now owned by a private company.

When prompted for comment today, Chow said the house was a national asset, not just a state asset.

“We hope the federal government takes note of this while the state (government) will get more information on this and also look into it,” he said.
