223 arrested over MCO-related offences

Most of the MCO offences committed yesterday were related to the failure to take down details of people entering premises.

PETALING JAYA:
Senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 223 people were arrested by the police yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

In a statement, he said 216 of them were issued compound fines and seven remanded.

He said most of the offences were for failure to take down details of customers at premises (70).

Among the other offences were for not wearing a face mask (55), crossing states or districts without permission (47), failure to maintain physical distancing (24), participating in activities at nightclubs and pubs (17), and others (10).

Meanwhile, 3,721 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks on 6,726 supermarkets, 6,277 restaurants, 4,103 hawker stalls, 2,329 factories, 3,322 banks, 929 government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

The authorities also detained 51 undocumented migrants and four skippers yesterday as part of the ongoing Op Benteng campaign. They also confiscated eight vehicles.

On mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 1,428 people who arrived through KLIA were placed under quarantine yesterday.

He said since July 24, of the 142,880 people returning to Malaysia, 7,708 were quarantined, 134,155 were allowed to return home and 1,017 were admitted to hospital.
