1,063 cases, lowest since Dec 9

Selangor records highest number of infections again with 323 cases, with Sarawak second with 183.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 1,063 Covid-19 cases, the lowest since Dec 9 when 959 cases were reported.

Five deaths were also recorded in the last 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 1,365 recoveries, bringing the total number of patients discharged to 309,612.

There are 15,204 active cases, with 152 patients being treated in intensive care and 68 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the five deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,218.

The new cases today involved 1,059 local infections and four imported cases. Local cases comprised 814 Malaysians and 245 foreigners.

Selangor again recorded the highest number of infections with 323 cases, with 284 infections from clusters and close contacts.

This was followed by Sarawak (183), Penang (175), Johor (91), Kuala Lumpur (86), Kelantan (67), Sabah (38), Kedah (32), Perak (24), Terengganu (23), Negeri Sembilan (17), Pahang (two), Labuan (one) and Melaka (one).

No cases were reported in Perlis and Putrajaya.

There were eight cases linked to the prison clusters, with five in Tembok Pengkalan Chepa and one each in Tembok Bukit Besi, Jalan Harapan and Jalan Awang.

The five who died were men, all Malaysians, aged between 69 and 84. They comprised three from Sarawak and one each from Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. All had existing medical conditions.
