941 Covid-19 cases, first time infections hit three digits since Dec 9

Selangor again recorded the highest number of infections with 219 cases.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 941 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the first time the numbers have hit below 1,000 since Dec 9, when 959 cases were reported.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that five deaths were recorded.

In a statement, he added that there were 1,097 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 327,406.

He said the total number of infections now stands at 342,885.

There are 14,219 active cases, with 166 patients being treated in intensive care and 73 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, the five deaths take the number of fatalities to 1,260.

Selangor recorded the highest number of infections with 219 cases, of which 175 were detected at clusters and via screening of close contacts.

This was followed by Sarawak (192), Johor (171), Penang (164), Kuala Lumpur (57), Kelantan (49), Sabah (34), Negeri Sembilan (18), Kedah (13), Melaka (eight), Pahang (five), Perak (five), Terengganu (four), Labuan (one) and Putrajaya (one).

No new cases were recorded in Perlis.

The new cases today involved 933 local infections and eight imported cases. Local cases comprised 653 Malaysians and 280 foreigners.

There were 63 cases from prisons today, with 60 from the Pagar Bukit Chagar cluster and one case each from the Harapan prison, Tembok Pengkalan Chepa and Tembok Taiping clusters.

Four of the five deaths today involved Malaysians, aged between 42 and 82. The four, including a woman, had existing medical conditions.
