The Padang Rengas MP said the party’s representatives in the government should not hesitate to quit Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration since Umno has resolved against working with PPBM in the next general election.
Nazri was commenting on PPBM Supreme Council member Rosol Wahid’s challenge to ministers and deputies from Umno to resign unconditionally rather than threaten to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government.
“I fully support Rosol’s call. Why say that you will resign (only) if you are asked to? Just resign, it’s not difficult.”
Previously, Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah asked party leaders holding posts like ministers, deputy ministers and chairmen of government-linked companies to resign from their posts.
Some, including Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, Khairy Jamaluddin and Hishammuddin Hussein have said they would resign from their ministerial posts if the party instructs them to do so.
“As leaders, we must be loyal to the party and grassroots, we cannot fight for personal interests, we must have dignity. You cannot be a coward,” said Nazri.
He said ministers and deputy ministers from Umno have to decide if they were with Umno or PPBM.
“If you are with Umno, resign now. If not, you will be seen as being disloyal to Umno and the grassroots, fighting for your personal interests, not having dignity, and cowardly.”
