PETALING JAYA:
Rapid KL’s Ampang and Sri Petaling LRT lines are temporarily out of service after fallen trees and branches forced the evacuation of passengers stuck on trains on both lines.

The evacuation was completed after some three hours, the rail operator said on its Facebook page.

On social media, passengers complained about the lack of updates, having to wait in the dark, and having fears for their health.

“Please go straight to the problem,” said Facebook user Jonathan YS. “If you can’t remove the tree on time, announce the entire shutdown of the LRT line immediately. Don’t just announce (an) evacuation, you will just leave others hanging and clueless.”

One passenger said she has been waiting for more than an hour on the train and was worried about the health risks involved.

“The air flow is bad … Please advise how long will it take? We are waiting in the dark with no light, no air condition and are hungry.”

Facebook user Siew Mei urged Rapid KL to act more decisively, stating that the passengers needed fast decisions and not “uncertainties”.

“Been stuck here for more than an hour with so many people with masks on … With (all this) awareness about Covid-19, you can imagine if you were stuck here yourself.”

Another Facebook user, Mei Qi, blasted Rapid KL for “really lousy management, super slow decisions and arrangements”, adding that the whole line was waiting for more than two hours for a decision from Rapid KL management.

According to a post on its Facebook page at 6.44pm, Rapid KL announced that its Ampang line was experiencing a delay and said updates would follow.

At 6.59pm, it said a tree fell onto the track between Maluri and Pandan Jaya and trains were held up at both directions – going on to advise customers to seek alternative transport.

About half an hour later, Rapid KL said its Sri Petaling line was also affected as a tree branch fell onto the track between Chan Sow Lin and Cheras towards Sri Petaling.

At 8.24pm, it said evacuations were ongoing on both lines, and at 10.20pm it said evacuations had been completed.
