In a press conference today, Amirudin said a meeting would be held either tomorrow or Friday, after which the federal government would be in charge of making the final decision and announcing it to the public.
He also clarified that the Selangor government was not completely against a total lockdown in the state, as saving lives remained the top priority.
However, he stressed that this must be accompanied with an increase in mass testing, faster vaccinations and a comprehensive plan to “strike an equilibrium” between lives and livelihoods.
Amirudin said it was also important to consider other aspects such as the people’s mental health and unemployment.
“Announcing whether there is a lockdown or not is easy, but its impacts are massive. If we want a full lockdown, what are our plans on completing vaccinations as well as conducting tests and isolating patients? There should be details,” he said.
Commenting on the state’s plans on procuring its own Covid-19 vaccines, Amirudin said they were in the final stages of the process, with “one to two steps left”.
Once it obtains an adequate supply of vaccines, he said the state would present its enrolment plans to the Covid-19 immunisation task force, in order to complement the national vaccination programme.
Amirudin also announced the “Selangor Peduli Palestine” fund, which aims to raise up to RM1 million via crowdfunding to be channelled directly to Palestine, in the form of ambulances and other vehicles equipped with medical necessities.
