KUALA LUMPUR:
A viralled chart showing a much lowered grading scale for SPM, including an A- for students scoring 50% marks in Additional Maths and A- for English and Bahasa Melayu for those with 66% marks, is not from the Examinations Syndicate.

According to Bernama, the education ministry denied that the “SPM grading scale” chart, which has gone viral on social media, was from the national examination body.

In a statement, the ministry said the chart being viralled gave the impression that it was the actual grading scale for the 2020 SPM examination, which it added, can confuse the public, particularly candidates and their parents.

“It must be emphasised that the ‘SPM grading scale’ chart being viralled is not from the syndicate. Its officers lodged a police report last night and have also reported the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC),” the ministry said.

“The claim has also tarnished the image and credibility of the Examinations Syndicate as the national assessment body and also threatens public order.”

The statement was in reference to a Facebook posting under the name “MamaMia Mia” yesterday on the “SPM grading scale” chart, with the caption “Patut aku pelik budak2 sekarang berderet A”, loosely translated as, “No wonder I find it strange children are scoring straight As these days”.

It also came with the hashtag “#bilasekolahdipolitikkan” (#whenschoolsarepoliticised).
