We are watching, warns Hamzah as royal insults increase

Home minister says the authorities are monitoring the situation closely.

Home minister Hamzah Zainudin has warned that the authorities will act against anyone who makes any statement that can incite the people against the royalty.
PETALING JAYA:
Cases of insulting the royalty are on the rise, says home minister Hamzah Zainudin.

At a press conference, Hamzah said the authorities were monitoring the situation.

“I want to stress that we will act against anyone who makes any statement on this matter that can harm or incite the people to the extent of affecting public security.”

The most recent case of insulting the royalty involved Sarawak PKR member Iswardy Morni.

He was charged with making statements that were deemed seditious and insulting to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Iswardy has pleaded not guilty.

Prior to that, graphic artist Fahmi Reza was arrested over a social media posting which allegedly mocked the Raja Permaisuri Agong.

In April, an e-hailing driver was fined RM7,000, in default six months’ jail, for improper use of network facilities to transmit offensive communication against the Agong.
